I can't believe I'm about to admit this, but Chris Cornell's recordings with Timbaland, Scream, and I think there are a few other morsels out there, ain't that bad.  It's full of good riffs that are unfortunately overly synthesized, skipping like abused vinyl.  I’ve never been one for the dance party mix, dj, or any of that “teeny-bop-top-40-crap” that Scream sounds like on the surface.  If you can get beyond that, and believe me, it’s no easy task, lyrically and vocally, Chris is in top form.  Forget what you expect, forget what you expect the singer from Soundgarden and AudioSlave to sound like.  Forget the usual sound that usually accompanies his voice.  You just may find yourself in for a little treat.

It’s no coincidence that this is written days after the Songbook Tour at the Moore.  I hope there will be a Volume II.

Black Happy from Spokane, WA / Coeur d'Alene, ID.  Solid, tight, and phenomenal live!!  They have lots of stuff on YouTube and are available on iTunes, I recommend anything from Peg Head.  There's something about electric guitars, strong bass lines and an elaborate horn section that really gets me going.  I saw them live once or twice back in the day; and they had a sold-out reunion mini-tour the summer of 2010 (7 shows in Seattle and Spokane).  I was at their last Seattle show at The Croc where they regretfully announced the won't be doing it again, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

The Pleasure Elite - not your average Seattle Band, quite possibly, the exact opposite.  Aggressive, brutal with overtones of techno, undertones of speed metal with just a hint of hillbilly - finishes surprisingly smooth.  Saw these guys a ton of times between '93 and '98 from Seattle to Everett.  Give Bad Juju a listen but don't judge the lyrics until you read the liner notes.  They in no way promote or condone violence of any kind and if you're able to give it enough time, you may even find them politically provocative, insightful and artful.
